Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, here nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.

People with good emotional health are aware of their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. They have learned healthy ways to cope with the stress and problems that are a normal part of life. They feel good about themselves and have healthy relationships.

However, many things that happen in our life can disrupt our emotional health and lead to strong feelings of sadness, stress or anxiety.

Poor emotional health can weaken ones body's immune system, making you more likely to get colds and other infections during emotionally difficult times. Also, when one is feeling stressed, anxious or upset, they might not take care of their health as well as they should. Lack of exercising, eating nutritious foods or taking medicine prescribed by doctors are all effects of the stress. Abuse of alcohol, tobacco or other drugs may also be a sign of poor emotional health.

Our environment has an effect on how we feel. Have you noticed that an untidy room makes one feel bad about himself (and feeling bad about oneself leads to the thinking that spending time tidying the room is time wasted — after all the person is not that important).

THE EMOTIONAL BODY

A recent article in the Pune Mirror speaks about Macrobiotics. This simply states that our organs are governed by a particular emotion and how they affect our mental well-being.

Macrobiotics is a healthy, holistic way of living a balanced lifestyle. It is a vast subject, and not just a diet. It basically comes down to the fact that the world (the earth and all thereon) is a constantly changing holistic system that is ever striving for balance. It not only covers diet, but balance in body, soul and spirit.

Macrobiotics is an approach to physical and emotional wellness through consuming foods that are balanced energetically and nutritionally.

One of the key elements in this approach is the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) of diagnosing each organ which says that our body parts are governed by a particular emotion. Hence any problems in these organs can lead to emotional disorders. Here's how:

EMOTIONAL
SPACE

When you redecorate any room, one of the first things you need to consider - before the theme, before the color scheme, before choosing furniture or fabric - is what you want the feeling in the room to be. When you walk into that room day after day, or when others walk in for the first time, what do you want the emotional sensation that washes over them to be? Do you want it to be calming or energizing? Do you want it to be serene or passionate?

These are all emotional states that can be conveyed through how your surrounding space looks and feels. Of course, there is more than simply color that goes into creating a mood in a room - there is space planning, texture, fabric, graphic elements - many more things aside from merely color alone. However, it is an unassailable fact that color is the single most important element in any design scheme, when it comes to conveying the feeling of the room or space. Color should be decided on before anything else.
