Green School at bali Vastuworld Report

We had a amazing conversation with John Hardy in Bali. John has been instrumental in using natural building material and system when he conceived Green school. Bamboo and rammed earth are his favorite material. When I introduced myself as an architect, I could see the discomfort on John’s face, than I explained him that I am an energy architect and work very little with cement and plastic. During our discussion on varied topics related to environment, mother earth and architects role, John narrated his stories how architecture community has been making concrete jungles and how much he hate this development.

Ken Hickson’s Ecovoice interview follows:

Green School chose bamboo in the spirit of plenty. With rapidly escalating world cement prices, not to mention the sheer amount of fossil fuel that cement consumes, we must look to alternative building materials. Frankly, it is hard to talk to students about sustainability while they are using the last piece of rainforest for their chair and their table. It is the painful truth that they are going to have to stretch to get enough rain forest timber to build their homes.

Architectural Solution to Safeguard Mobile & Harmful Electrical Radiations

High Frequency Shielding Foil Shielding foil for window glass against high frequency electromagnetic radiation, generated by mobile phone masts, cordless phone base stations and other digitally pulsed microwave telecommunication transmitters.

This is a high quality self-adhesive shielding foil, containing a metal film, which is reflecting high frequency radiation. Windows as well as doors arc the weakest points in high frequency shielding, because they let the microwaves pass through like light. The shielding foil has a protective foil.
